Last updated: April 20, 2026
Welcome to Tanuki Stories. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of our website, digital content, and guiding services.
We aim to provide meaningful and enjoyable experiences, and these Terms are designed to ensure clarity, fairness, and mutual understanding. By accessing our website or booking a service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Nature of Services
Tanuki Stories is an independently operated guiding service based in Japan.
-
We provide guided tours and cultural or educational experiences
-
We do not operate as a travel agency or tour operator
-
We do not sell package travel services (such as accommodation or transportation bundles)
If we assist with reservations (e.g. restaurants or cultural activities), this is done as a courtesy only, and any agreement remains directly between you and the service provider.
2. Booking and Agreement
A booking is considered confirmed when:
-
the service details are agreed, and
-
the applicable payment terms are accepted
You confirm that:
-
you are at least 18 years old or have appropriate consent
-
the information you provide is accurate
3. Payment Terms
Payment conditions (including timing, method, and any deposit) are agreed at the time of booking.
Depending on the nature of the booking:
-
private clients may be asked to prepay
-
partner agencies may follow separately agreed arrangements
All prices are in Japanese Yen (JPY), unless otherwise specified.
4. Cancellation and Refund Policy
-
Cancellations made more than 45 days before the scheduled service are fully refundable
-
Cancellations within 45 days are generally non-refundable
However, we understand that unexpected situations can arise. Where appropriate, we may consider partial refunds or alternative arrangements at our discretion.
If Tanuki Stories cancels a service (excluding force majeure), a full refund will be provided.
5. Changes and Flexibility
We will always do our best to accommodate reasonable requests for changes.
However, changes cannot always be guaranteed, especially close to the service date.
6. Nature of Activities and Personal Responsibility
Our tours often include walking and may involve:
-
uneven surfaces
-
stairs or slopes
-
urban environments

varying weather conditions
Participants are expected to:

We will always aim to guide safely and attentively, and we encourage open communication if you feel uncomfortable at any time.
7. Health and Dietary Considerations
-
Participants are responsible for their own health conditions and dietary needs
-
While we may provide guidance, we cannot guarantee allergen-free environments
If you have specific concerns, please inform us in advance.

We kindly ask all participants to:
-
respect the guide, fellow participants, and local communities

Tours operate in most weather conditions.
In cases of severe or unsafe conditions (e.g. typhoons or heavy snow), we may:

adjust the itinerary
-
postpone the service
-
or cancel for safety reasons
11. Third-Party Services
Any third-party services (restaurants, transport, cultural activities) are:
-
independent from Tanuki Stories
-

war or geopolitical events

government restrictions
-
major travel disruptions
In such situations, we will always try to find fair and reasonable solutions.
Deposits are generally non-refundable, but partial refunds or credits may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
13. Participation and Group Size
The number of participants agreed at booking is considered final.
We understand that plans may change, but refunds or reductions are not guaranteed for last-minute changes or no-shows.
14. Identification Requirements
Participants are responsible for complying with Japanese legal requirements, including carrying valid identification where required.
